Kurdish Globe Advert Inspires Joy
This little ad means that it is once again possible for me to make travel plans with friends without the fear that my flight will suddenly be cancelled or rescheduled. I will also be able to visit Amy after she moves to London... or meet her in Vienna.

Is it safe to visit Iraqi-Kurdistan now for a westerner? My family is afraid the Turkish army will come back and invade Erbil and other non-PKK regions.
I can't really say for certain... However, you will note in a previous post I mentioned couch surfers. They were American tourists and they had no problems. Even when there is activity on the border, it seems to be isolated to the region where Iran, Turkey and Iraq intersect. I and my colleagues frequently travel to Turkey overland closer to the Syria side. And as for Erbil, I wouldn't worry.
hi, i noticed that this was posted on 2008. Now being april 2009, are you still visiting/living in kurdistan? If so where abouts and is it still safe? are you originally from kurdistan or another country? thanks
A friend in Taiwan characterized me as someone seeking stability in risky environments. If she knew I had relocated to Northern Iraq, she would probably feel she had been proven right... But the truth is, life is quiet here... so far. But it's true that I love the challenge of figuring out yet another new place. I wonder if my curiosity will ever be completely satisfied. Charlie Chan said, "Curiosity responsible for cat needing nine lives." I only have one, so I better satisfy as much as possible before it runs out... or hope that I come back as a cat.
