Saddam is sentenced...

...and it would seem to me that today Hawler celebrated. I went to Ainkawa after work today to experience the worst traffic since I have arrived. It took an hour to get to a place which should have taken no more than 20 minutes. Not only that, the regular beeping of horns sounded more joyous somehow. Everyone was out celebrating? On BBC World, we saw pictures of Iraqis in Baghdad protesting the verdict. How surreal! It was certainly not the atmosphere here today.

I agree... and thanks, that's exactly how it felt- a World Cup Victory. (Although of course there were no Iraqi flags - in this region, that could be taken perhaps as a Saddam supporter). This morning, we asked our non-English speaking how he felt about the sentencing. He (a sweet and gentle man) still shook his head and said that he thought the verdict was 'Zor xor bash' - very very good. I wouldn't have expected this because there are so many MORE crimes against humanity that Saddam needs to be tried for on top of the ones he was sentenced for. He shouldn't get off so easy - and be made into a martyr in the process.

I am apalled; i had no idea that court was authorised to order the death penalty. Evil truky begets evil. I feel the verdict will give fanatics another excuse to perpetrate more violence. Not to mention that it is a bit of anm easy out, although he will become a martyr for soem no matter what the outcome.

Are you going to tell us about your security guards?
